I've been riding about on my newly-built rigid 750 Triumph chop for a few weeks and am busting headlights like nothing else. I need a solution, as it's already getting annoying changing them, and at $10 a pop it'll add up quickly.
It's running a Paughco narrow springer. At the moment the headlight is attached via six inch long steel bar, so it's basically rigid to the springer.
Before I go playing with funky springs etc...anyone set up some sort of headlight suspsension thing before? Cheers.

Not sure if it would help but have you thought of using rubber or urethane where it mounts to the fork? also maybe shorten up the mount a little.

Yeah, I guess I should try that before I rig up anything too fancy. It might be just enough to absorb some of these bumps.
Australian roads are much worse than the US. After the bulb busting last night, I took 5 minutes to change it, only to tear down the road, hit a bump and the thing blew again! That meant a 40 minute ride home in the dark, dodging police and drivers who couldn't see me!
Any other suggestions would be welcomed though.

Are you running sealed beam?If so make sure its a motorcycle one they take a beating better. If its the prefocus type bulb Marc Michon in Fresno,California has halogens that work great...The General

Thanks for the tip. I found what should be a better bulb - made in Germany as opposed to China. :) I just rigged up a very basic bracket today - standard 3mm flat steel bar - about 4" long. It's got much more flex than the box tube that was on there before. I went for a quick ride along the bumpiest road in town and was fine. I'll soon see if it passes the test of time though.
Cheers.

i just fabbed up a bracket for my new bottom mount light & used a set of soft skateboard bushings (doh-doh's yellow or blue). squash the headlight bucket between the two bushings & use a bolt & washer on the inside just like youd see on a skateboard. mine vibrates a little but it seems to be pretty happy so far.
