View Full Version : Why aren't British bikes and Harley separate?
To the Moderators: Why are British bikes and Harley lumped together in one forum? Nothing personal but from a sure ease of information organization and reading it just seem like it would make sense. Is it one of those "If you're here you're here for a reason so use the search function" things? I know I'm new and don't mean to rock the boat. I was just curious and thought I'd ask. My apologies in advance.

haha read this and yes, this is one of those your here and use the search kind of forums.
If you are a new member, please do the following, in this order:
1) Read this whole thread, about our focus and content here.
2) Introduce yourself on the intro board > http://www.jockeyjournal.com/forum/f...aysprune=&f=12 (http://www.jockeyjournal.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&f=12) .
Include info about your bike(s), your scene, your job, your projects, etc.
3) Read old posts to gain insight regarding what kinds of people and machinery call the Jockey Journal home.
4) Before starting your first new thread, use the search function of this forum to make sure that what you're about to show or ask hasn't already been posted a long time ago by dozens of other new members. This step is critical to avoid negative flaming, redundant posting, repetitive photo submissions, etc.
5) If you've done a thorough search of old threads and you still can't find what you're looking for, start a thread with a specific title that makes sense.
This was exactly the answer I was expecting. BTW I already did #1, #2 and #3. Tried looking for my answer before posting and came up with nothing. Seems #4 and #5 are rarely followed.

It is a legitimate question, and not one specifically covered by that 'New members' thread.
And I really appreciate that it was posted in the correct forum.....rather than the main board, or more commonly tech question 1st-posts put on this board, despite the title of the invisible Sticky just above...
And board layout is done strictly by owner Ryan. He doesnt want mutlpile subforums.....hell, it took 4 years to get an Intro area, and five for the Classifieds to be divided.
And much & long as xeveral of us have rallied for an events sub-forum to separate the parties & rides from the tech content....no go.
If you really think about it, splitting up by brands would really be more counter-productive than easy to read (and that's why we ask to make the thread-title specific to topic or question, there's a lot of space available within the title line).
But Harley / Indian / Aermacchi / other American / Triumph / BSA / Norton / Ariel / J.A.P. / Brough / (just recently-posted-about brands that came to mind).....Where would it end ?
Then should there be separate tech areas for each ? What about the commonality of some questions.....wheel size / gearing, tire choice, what color is "cool", etc. that arent brand-specific....
We appreciate the input but I think the 3rd paragraph above is probably the bottom line....i.e. what ya see is pretty much what we're gonna get...

In a late night conversation with Ryan on the subject...
The idea of a web board was an afterthought to the Jalopy Journal blog. After repeated pesterings, Ryan added one to the JJ. At a loss for a name, he called it the Hokey Ass Message Board, as he really didn't see the need for either the board or the name.
History has proven otherwise; and the format seems to work for purposes of cross-pollination. If you need marque specific info, the 'Search' function serves quite well.

What I've noticed about this forum, is it's a chopper forum, and fabricating is fabricating and I've seen Triumph guys do stuff I've liked and would like to incorporate on my shovel. I think the mixing of makes is great.

They go on other websites where they belong

As noted most Japanese stuff is OT here. Takes a rare bike such as the Denvers Choppers to fit the board. We delete the rest.

^^^Ryan also gave the go ahead on a Japanese build thread if it was detailed on fabrication and tech. Never seen one though, lol.

It's a british and harley thing. If you don't understand you wouldn't understand. Those who do understand, understand.
