I posted a legit post asking if anyone has info on this guy and if anyone knows him personally and could shed some light.
I dont see why that post is locked? Am I missing something?

A lot of threads are getting locked for some unknown reason...the Garage Magazine Thread locked out peeved me.
I still don't get the Tattoo thread from a few days ago either....I posted a thread (like this) and asked (politely) and my thread got totally erased....just like this one will 3, 2, 1.....

Thanks mr grub, that was the point of that Q/S thread (the first post in it)....
The point here is, Trent, it was not deleted, it is still there so that people can still contact you via PN or email which had already begun.
Please do post an update if/when there is resolution.
But these callout-about-moderation threads only serve to incite drama and have no future.
For those who feel it's "1984", feel free to contact the owner of this "free world" about it, there's a "contact us" link at the lower right.

There are a half-dozen mods/admins here, and we cannot tell who closes what. But there are clear guidelines for it.
See the post above Steve, if you have issues please contact Ryan.

This is a dilemma... Some threads are pointless and some aren't... That is the life of a forum. Most forums I have been to include more places to talk than just the main board.
I don't own or run anything like this so I cannot personally say what is right or wrong. I'm sure there are legitimate reasons that these people are irritated by the b/s posts. The main reason that comes to mind is if they receive countless emails and p.m.'ed complaints. That is plenty of reasons to police the threads that "stir the pot"...
Again though, I believe that there should be a bullshit section on any forum where someone can speak there mind about the people or actions that are going on... But this isn't a democracy. They pay for it, they own it.
Sooooooo, with that said... Sometimes you gotta just deal with it. Life's a garden... well, you know the rest...

I have been wondering about the "closed thread" issue lately as well - there were a couple of hilarious threads lampooning the ridiculous H-D "dark customs" marketing gaff - and both were closed down almost immediatley. It made me wonder - if we aren't safe making fun of the modern corporate H-D in this forum, where can we? (They got to you moderators, didn't they ...)

I just saw one close that I posted a reply to, funny one about a guy asking for bike builders to submit pics for a documentary.. worthless, but still funny and would not have killed anyone to let it run a little and see a few funny posts to it. Its like JJ is losing that old west feel, too much moderation and too quickly. if the thread is useless it will die on its own! just my 2 cents (I'll probably be banned forever after posting this :))

We can resolve our own issues, sometimes we need a little info to do it!
=mike=
04-27-2008, 01:55 AM
There aren't too many real issues to resolve here . It's a free message board and for the most part , if something is off topic it will be deleted . There are exceptions in both directions , but posting a link to a shitty bike on craigslist , just so everyone can trip out on why it's so shitty or costs so mush , is dumb and notg what this board is here for .
Likewise any thread that is obviously " worthless " , is exactly that and will again more than likely be deleted .
Useless threads don't " just die " either .
Unfortunately they drag on and on and float to the surface over and over so someone else can get in on it and proclaim " that shit sucks " or " man that's fucking dumb " or some other sparkling gem like that .
In turn , that ends up eating up bandwidth , boring the shit out of everyone , and ultimately wasting Ryan's money , which is what lets us all be here in the first place .
He's told all of the moderators ( myself included ) what to look out for , and what to do when things start to go a certain way . Sometimes the first post is all we need to read to see where something is going , sometimes threads take a nasty turn and end up eating shit later than we would have predicted .
Regardless , the idea that there is " too much moderation , too quickly " is as far from correct as it could be . There have been more useful , on topic , constructive and interesting threads lately than ever , since the inception of this forum . . . and it has been steadily getting better due in no small part to the efforts of the people who are trying to keep this train on it's rails .
After all , Back Talk is a click away , if you feel like you just have to vent about the latest doo-rag , or skull customs dark horse harley barge , or how much R.U.B.S. suck . . . Ryan is trying to have an informative and very technical database / forum to help with things like building , maintaining , and riding a certain style of motorcycle . That doesn't mean that the occasional goof doesn't happen , but seriously , it's pretty simple .

not being a tech wiz with computer shit, and barely able to balance my checkbook....i have always wondered about that saying "eating up bandwidth".
if there are gonna be 500 posts or whatever in a days time....at the end of the day isnt 500 posts on good threads, the same amount of volume as 500 posts on bad threads? or do bad threads weigh more than good threads with regards to bandwidth?
and isnt somebody that wants to start a thread just going to start one, good or bad cause they wanna chit-chat on a message board? so it cant be the actual thread "count" can it?
at the end of the day...its still 500 posts worth of info, some good, some bad, and 20 started threads, some good some bad.
wheres the real beef on that bandwidth thing, or is it kind of like saying "eat your vegetables?" and "because we say so?"
i understand "board focus" and "board direction" and all that lofty shit....just curious about the other. and maybe how debating the lines of this clown bike and 355 attaboys, weighs more or less than debating the 30 over fork length on that serious bike and 355 attaboys.

That's the problem , more accurately . . . the good and the bad .
It weighs more because on one hand he is spending his time and money to let us discuss things that don't suck .
When people are ranting about OCC or if Vans are safe riding gear , he's paying for us to be idiots .
I don't think it's a mater of amount , rather quality and how he want's us to spend his money .

I really do see your point, but if you make the board to where it is not fun to be here and you introduce too much moderation, it will turn into an online encyclopedia of bike building information. Which is 100% fine with me, but not sure that is where you want to go...
I'm betting if you have a bunch of people bitching about moderation then there is probably too much moderation
if its only a few people bitching then its probably fine...
I know its a balancing act and this is my last post... :)

well like i said Dragon, i do actually understand board focus and intent to some degree. and its not mine to argue about.
i just wanted clarity on that bandwidth thing, because if thats talking down to members, then that likely just sounds funny. "eat your vegetables" i understand. "you are a fool" on the otherhand...goes nowhere.
as to costs associated with, all the more reason to ask about those badges and how i can purchase a few at an exhorbitant cost to support the circus.

This is why the thread was left in place. A simple search of 'callout' takes you straight to it.
Far from topical to be a sticky, but good to see you there, PJ...

And it is pointed out in the thread that the goods have been shipped, just mis-shipped by Mike's wife while he was away deploying.
Leaving the thread to continue with offers of vigilante-ism or home-visits, when the stuff has already been shipped (we know not where), again, made the thread counterproductive.
But, it is still right there for ayone to PM from (and for the spambots to harvest that 3rd party's email).

I am not sure its been shipped.. I have never received a tracking number or any further info.
I have been calling Mike like 3 times a day.. no reply.. I called this morning, no reply. Then my phone rings.. its him, but he didnt call me.. he accidentally hit redial and I am sitting here listening to him talk to some dude about his chopper.
As for the deployment thing.. a fucking lie.. I am listening to him talk right now and he is in Florida hamming it up about choppers and religion.

maybe a bad choice of words, but nothing of the kind as far as threats or anything like that. TK has a legit shop with retail hours and a meet between the two, or the parts being dropped off to TK(only since he offered anyway) could alleviate any worries and future shipping issues and hassles for a wife trying to load a motor, 150lbs, while hubby is deployed. only seemed logical. anything else...and i would not have been posting openly. i run a business.

I got this email response from the other Trent, who has the parts, in NY -
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes its true,
I bought a belt drive, evo motor from him, recieved my stuff then about a weel later a bunch of stuff showed up at my place again, motor, tranny, mag, misc. Mike called me and asked to have it forwarded to the other guy, sent me a check for the shipping costs. Well a florida check in NY takes awhile to clear and I wasnt about to pay with my $$. It cleared and I simply spaced it off. Mike R is offshore doing reserve shit and I cant reach him, Dino is doing chemo and nobody will bother him so I'm left holding the bag...I didnt ask for this to happen, wasnt my mistake that got the stuff here, everyone on the planet is calling me, Dino and everyone in this a million times a day.
Everything is palletized and yellow should be picking it up today....
