I thought we had general rules about introducing yourself. Do we? The intros are starting to suck and some people aren't even DOING them. I don't know how anyone else feels, but I would like to know what people are doing and see pictures if they have them. It's super helpful to know who's doing what so we can get help with any tech questions we may have.

Damn, I'm getting bitchy as I get older... Thanks for letting me vent!

Yeah, yeah... I know... very bitchy and cop like. I'm just turning into a bitchy old guy who wants to see all the talent on this board. I know there are some talented people here and there are a ton lurking here too.

Cheers!

I have no intentions on letting this place get as bad as the Hamb in terms of Jackasses.

I need some more feedback. I have no problem deleting them and keeping them out if they arent doing this place any good.

Lets hear some support for this.

Um,don't you think some of that starts when people start becoming "elitists" and all and start worring to much about what others are and are not doing? I mean I'm new here and no offence, but I see a hell of alotta posts that are just folks posting pix of bikes from the net say "wow, and look at this,,etc" Granted some
stuff may be good tech refence but... I dunno,,,the HAMB (like many online sites) has far to many people that just quote what they read and they think just cause they 've read it that that's how it is and get all hollier than thou.Personally the "Which bike should i get" "what color should i paint it" is the most pointless thing i've ever read. It's mine and I'll do what I want is my take on it.Intros are a good icebreaker, but whats someones "doing or building"
should really be up to them if they wanna share."Intro's suck" at least they made one,so to start judging someones intro then defeats the purpose, cause who's gonna post anything if your just gonna put them down? I think ther should be more tech posts, but keep it that way,not what kind of oil, what color rim shit. Also it could have linx to FAQ stuff, say frame raking
etc.Online will always have asshole just like RL,,only difference is ,,online you can't just reach out and smack um in the head :)

pms my ass

I think it's good we're discussing this. Probably some things to get out on the table around here. Some good points made already in my opinion. This might get long...

Since the JJ is a direct descendent of the HAMB I think it makes for a great comparison. As much as I would hate to see this place get too big, I think it will eventually become another HAMB. It's inevitable that a public forum will get big. The only forum I see staying in cotrol for that matter is FUCK! choppers and punk rock. They've got rules, regulations, and you have to adhere to them. It's like having an association to supervise the board and keep things under control. Point made.

Okay, now with regards to what's posted on the JJ (keeping in mind that it is public and not private), I don't think that we will ever get rid of people posting topics that may be slightly off topic but still has roots in the world of motorcycles. I see people posting random stuff to vent or to share news of things in their life because they feel comfortable doing that. A sense of community does exist here. The community is getting big though, and maybe there should be another section added to discuss misc. things... sort of like being at the bar instead of being at work. For example... BritBike.com has the Rod and Tappett. I'm not sure how well it works, but I do notice that BB.com keeps things pretty serious on the main board by keeping general discussion in the R and T. Maybe that's something to think about for the future.

I can't speak for everyone here, because I don't even know 2% of the people here, but I know the reason I came here was to get no bullshit tech answers for my projects. I find myself using this more as a chat area lately though. I even find myself angry sometimes and choose to post defending my "community" here at the JJ. However, I have found that a little bit of "chat" has often lead me to some pretty damn good ideas on the direction I want to go with my project. Satanherself mentioned that people will build things the way they want to, and ultimately that is true, but we also get influence from places we trust to get answers... like the JJ. I'm guilty of starting a thread on paint. I started the thread because I had some ideas I was kicking around, but couldn't visualize, so I asked for pics. Pictures are worth a thousand words in my opinion! Especially when it comes to building unique things. Ultimately, the paint thread helped and I got my answer and the post didn't even get out of control.

I don't think we're out of control here yet, but I think it could get out of control if we're not careful and I don't think Jason or Ryan want that. I personally consider this a place I can still go for answers and that's ultimately the point of a discussion group or forum. Yes, I think we all wade through a little dung sometimes (some times TOO much!) to get to the good stuff, but ultimately we all get answers to our questions.

Sorry for the book, but I guess I just care about this community and don't want to see it go to shit like Chopper Web or some of the other HUGE gay and cliche chopper forums. I like that we have a diverse group here. Some chop guys, some traditional bikers, some historians, even some "celebrities"... but we can all learn from eachother if we keep this place a "community".

Hopefully nobody is offended by any of what I just said, but just trying to help these guys out by opening this topic up for discussion. Everyone has an opinion, maybe we should here everyone's input on what they think of the board, especially people who have been here since the beginning...

Honestly, don't you think it a bit wiser to pay more attention to your machine and what your building as apposed to whats going on ,on some online bike site?
When you call something "gay" and "cliche" then your no better than that of which you speak,as you now consider yourself above them."Unique" kinda goes out the window once everyone starts coping it,lol.Build whatever with whatever
and however.Pix are like chrome ,don't mean a hell of alot. It's what YOU get out
of what YOU have created,if you need the spotlight or to much attention then thats another matter all together. If you worry to much about what everyone else is doing,,then you have wasted that time doing nothing. This is not a direct attack, just an observation

I don't think you guys need to worry about editorial direction or content. Jason and I have a pretty good idea of what it is we are doing...

As for the HAMB, I hear a lot of comments about how big it is now and how much BS there is on the board, etc... Frankly, you're all wrong. At any one time there is never more than 10% off topic posts on the front page. The HAMB in its current state is far more on-topic, productive, and valuable than it has ever been. If TJJ2 is half as successful as the HAMB, I will be happy... One thing is for sure:

If ya don't like the HAMB, you aren't going to like TJJ2.

As far as intros, they have always been a user created thing - I've never made them mandatory and have never been all that in to them.

I agree with your observation, but I think you took me wrong or I came off the wrong way. I didn't mean to get anyone all upset here. I by no means think I'm over anyone and could care less about being in the spot light. Just like what's going on around here and sort of feel like protecting it. That was the whole point of bringing up the intro thing. It was only my opinion anyway with no intentions of speaking for anyone else on the board. Geeeesh! No reason to get upset with me for calling something gay or cliche... I was a member of Chopper Web briefly and found that it sucked because it was so big and based around peoples interests of what happened on American Chopper last night. However, I'm also not into $40,000 trailor queens either. So I appologize for any offense fealt towards this particular topic of interest. I think it's safe to say that 90% of the people that post on here don't raise topics related to that scene... That's all! Don't get me wrong!

By the way, who said anything about copying? If anything I'm interested in other people's stuff because I DON'T want to copy! At the same time, there is nothing NEW here! Maybe it's new in a different generation, but we're no master minds here. There were people that tried stuff long before it ever came up on some internet forum. One things stems off of another and that's why this forum exists. To learn about those things and learn how what makes our machine's tick. And by the way, me posting here is my infintile response done to avoid all responsibility while I'm at work :D ... not when I'm home during which my time is spent doing things with my family and working on my bike... so now who's passing judgement? Sorry for giving a shit about the community.

I knew I shouldn't have posted this thread. Thought I was helping, but thought wrong. Sorry everyone. No offense intended. Can we get back to the topic at hand now instead of who's right or wrong and who said what?

intros are gay. if you post one it is polite and appreciated (internet etiquette is SOOOO gay), if you dont post one who cares, if you have some big issue posting an intro you are gay.
in a place like the HAMB, they may be a little more necessary (classified bandwidth wasting fly-by-night scam artist scumbags), but here, its a different story.
this place is so lo-volume compared to the HAMB and i like it.
this place is not like F!C&P board and i like it
this place is not like the horse board and i like it
this place is spawn of HAMB and i like it.
lets not ruin it by nit-picking every little thing. just let people be, even if their bike is gay, which it probably is.
remember, a little touch of elitism is VERY healthy.

not yet at least... i hope it never isMy favorite thing about this site already is that it seems for the most part to be filled with some good folks into building and riding homebuilt bikes.Thanx for having me.

Best thing about the JJ,is that it is not the Whores Backstab Chobbers
