View Full Version : De-Kalifornicating my Harley

I have a 1200 XLC ('99) with California emissions. I took off the gas evaporation tank when I changed out the rear tire and never put it back, is my tank now just evaporating into the air?

Also, it has this stupid internal flap inside the airbox that I have to manually open by pushing up on the solenoid. It won't open by itself 'cuz it is fouled by the stupid head breathers (a huge bitch of mine Willy G). I want to just lose the airbox entirely and go with a aftermarket draft tube and cleaner. I think I can just grease the electrical connection and not have to worry about it since the wiring only controlled the solenoid.

I asked my local HD shop about it, you'd figure they never heard of anyone modifying a Harley before.... maybe they haven't.

Anyone ever done this? Problems? Am I on the right track?

EC go with the screamin eagle air cleaner kit. It is easy to install and eliminates all the pollution crap. It looks better too if that is a concern. save back all the old stuff in case emissions become an issue the wires that control the solenoid just tuck back up.
If you do this swap be sure to use your petcock to turn off your fuel.
here is a really useful link for tuning cv's
