I really think that if you want the classifieds section to be around in order to help JJ members get first dibs on parts and bikes from other members, then it should really have a post count minimum. I suggest that there be a minimum post count to even see the classifieds forum.

In addition, the WTS and WTB posts need to be separated in their own forum, in order to make it easier for the shopper/seller to get their stuff in front of the right people.

If anyone else agrees, hit this post with a +1 and let the community be heard. :D

It's quite obvious how out-of-control it has quickly gotten since the post-count rule was lifted.

So +100 on that one.

But FS and WTB is clear enough in the title (and as a rule, amazingly adhered-to...), so not much to gain complicating things with new sub-boards.

Especially since we cant even get a board or a pinned thread on suspect/bad dealers.

And what about all the threads being deleted from the Board, when they are about specific personal deals gone bad, or general discussion about Paypal procedures and problems ??

It's as if no one shopping with Flyrite or Biltwell ever uses Paypal, nor any of us meager ebay-shopping homebuilders....We are helping Each Other by (trying to) share that sort of information.

Reinstate the post count. Every douche with something wants to chew and screw the Jockey Journal. Look at the classifieds right now and there's a guy's first post with a pile of sh*t for sale and I don't give a crap about him being local to me either. Where'd that other dink go that wanted to sell off his 'inventory'? He's a local shyster and two posts later he's gonzo. Remember the intent of the board? COMMUNITY. Bring it back.

+10000000 for reinstating the post count..it should have went the other way and got more strict not less.
i have said a hundred times before, i think you should have 100 or more to be able to post to or even (like torch said) see the classifides. I used to check the classifides every night and now i just dont even bother anymore.

+1 on the post count...i also think there should be a rule to keep the bullshit OFF the classifieds. the only correspondance between members should be directly related to the sale of the item, NOT peoples opinions. save that shit for BACK TALK. IMHO

Don't know about all that minimum stuff. I have not been here long and personally have nothing to SELL but willing to buy for my own project. Waiting on a fender from one of your long term guys and chasing around some mags from a couple others. I can see a limit on sellers but why chase away buyers?

i have 40-ish posts, and most of 'em are "nice bike, man".
i do not deserve to be able to sell /post in the classifieds.

+1 times eleventy-billion on some classifieds control.

I'm a new guy here and haven't spent much time...yet. That may change pretty soon now that I have my two bikes. In my opinion the classifieds here should be for the members to be able to hook each other up with stuff and should exclude people that don't spend some time here and contribute to the place.
personally I'd rather get to know some people and see if there's any way I can help out before I start asking for favors.

plus, some regs on the classifieds would probably cut down on the 'rat.hot.rod.kustom.bobber.chopper' guys scouring the 'net just to make a buck off someone with no knowledge of or interest in the m/c hobby.

+1 to the post count

but I don't understand when I run across a smokin' deal on Craigslist, and I don't currently have funds to jump on, why I can't slip a link in here without it being deleted?..

I'm just trying to pass the deal around - help anyone interested on the board who might find it worthy... - helpin' a bro out, thought that was what a good portion of the board was about... That's all I'm trying to do.

+ 1.... even though one of my first posts was whining about how the "50 posts rule" sucks, why did my ad get deleted, blah, blah, blah. But now I see the light. We need to be governed- somewhat. And +1 for craigslist links being allowed. There's some great deals sometimes, and quite often, someone from out of town finds the ad and alerts someone local, and a deal is scored. Also, it's cool to see guys with only a few posts supporting the FPR- it shows that these opinions are unbiased.

Reluctantly +1

I'm only able to connect occasionally, I'm deployed. But I recognize that not everyone takes "buyer beware" to the extreme I do. I've bought a vintage sparkly helmet, a newish half helmet, and a sweet pair of apes from members that I felt I kinda 'knew' from reading the forums. I would love a Honda 750/Amen Saviour (sp?) set-up, BUT I've been screwed enough NOT TO BUY something from newbies. That goes for anything I'm spending my hard earned dough on.

P.S. I just added a post. Ha

Hi Guys,

Being a newbie here I'd like to put my 2 cents in if you guys dont mind. Keep in mind I'm probably not the typical member in the forum. I dont know alot about everything there is to know on these types of bikes and knowledge that most of the members have in here, But I really enjoy going into the classified and checking everything out and maybe just maybe be able to pick something up. I really enjoy the forum and understand where you guys are coming from, but do you guys think that the majority of new members are joining just for a ripoff and get out of town sale? I personally am very interested in this forum and I think I have learned a ton of stuff from you guys and just browsing around but do find it difficult (and intimidating) sometimes to post things other than "great bike" or "right on bro!". lol. I understand where everybody is coming from but I just think that it sucks that a few dumbasses are gonna ruin a good thing.

Just my 2 cents!

Due to the lack of time I have to keep up with this section, I have decided to turn off replies in the classified section. As such, please PM any communication that needs to be done as the result of an ad.

Thanks!

In addition, will that stop the poster from bumping his own post?

yep, it'll stop people from being able to bump their posts and also prevent them marking something sold.

It was horrible... I could easily spend hours a day moderating that section and I just don't have the time. Unfortunately, a few bad apples ruined it for us all... That said, I hope to be able to weed those folks out over the coming months and with any luck we will go back to classifieds as they should be...

Sorry folks... I wish I had more time to work on this deal.

Maybe we need a 'classifieds editior' to get things under control. Maybe a long time JJer could step up and fill in in till something more permanent comes along or you have more time to dedicate to it. I'm not speaking for anyone but I have seen alot of guys offer to help anyway they can 'just ask'.

Just thinkin'.

Doc, I am currently asking some folks I know for further help...

And I want to reiterate... While I'm closing replies due to a few that can't read the rules for some reason, it's just as much my fault. I just don't have the time to spend on it to make it right at the moment... TJJ #1 pays the bills, so that site comes first at the moment.

I can see how that will help with the length of the posts since sellers can't bump their posts back to the front of the line, but if anything I think it will make the number of posts go up. How long do you think its going to take for sellers to figure out that rather than bumping their own posts to the top they can just post a new thread selling the same stuff? Just something that came to mind. lackluster

Yeah, that is easier for me to moderate though... I'll just start banning folks from that forum when they do it repeatedly...

I have not listed FS items in a good while but I have one up there now. As to bumping, it's amazing how fast the board moves, as in overnight the thread goes 3 pages back. I dont bump more frequently than every other day but I can understand the temptation.

And I do understand the reasons for this change, the "no way that Sporty's worth 10 grand" and "nice ride bro" replies......

I think most people dont even bother to go to the third page to find something to buy, thinking it is an old post. That is why I suggested to seperate WTB threads from FS threads...giving each time on the top page for most to see and respond to.

I personally know the 3 guys that edit the classifieds over on our sister board, the HAMB. It would scare you to know how much volunteer time is used to keep the classifieds clean (read several hours outta each day)

Believe me, we all want the classifieds to work well, I bought 2 items off there this week myself.

The classifieds on the other site are truly a lot of work. The volume of traffic makes it even moreso.

The rules there evolve from time to time to - mainly in response to abuse of existing rules.

There will always be those who figure out ways to get around rules.

And there's always whiners who cry about how someone else got treated differently.

and one more really relevant thing to add here...don't you think if we reinstated the post count and in fact disabled replies for those with less than 100 post's that the flaming and incessant garbage classified post's would slow way way down? Which in turn would mean less work for you correct?
just sayin....let me know if i can help you at all.
