View Full Version : The Jockey Journal Alliance

Ryan
08-09-2007, 02:33 AM
I'm essentially just thinking aloud here. The idea would be to extend the H.A.M.B. Alliance over to The Jockey Journal and create a new Alliance for the motorcycle fellas. The vendors would be shared across sites so there would be no reason for fellas to have to join both... I've certainly had a lot of interest from motorcycle vendors and I think it would be a pretty good deal for all involved.

I'm still working it in my head, but I did some tag art just to get some feedback. What do you all think? If you have an idea for a tag, feel free to post it here or to email it to me...

No promises yet.

I like the concept as long as it's not compulsory. That way everyone's happy and it minimises the impact on what I think is an outstanding community.

sounds good. it would be neat if the tag was small and thin. i'd put one on the neck of my bike.

i want 000000000015 because i'm cool and stuff.

I thought something like this tag would be cool. I don't know how to do computer art so I can't put the JJB into it.

I'm easily confused... so if you've payed your dues for the HAMB alliance and want to be a member of the JJ alliance no additional dues are required and you would end up with a tag for your bike in addition to the HAMB tag? NEAT!

Like the smaller sized ones myself! Would be cool for a frame tube, neck, anything... I don't think I would want to mount a tag to a tank or fender.

Ryan, would that be that the case for existing HAMB Alliance Members?

Oh yeah, shooks design is cool, especially the 2-tone but I like the 1st one better.

Alliance memberships are optional for all board users. They are essentially a "good faith" donation to Ryan, the administrator and owner of HAMB and JJ to offset his operating costs. The board remains free for everyone, but if you find value in the board, one can join the Alliance to offer support.

Alliance members can then get discounts from Alliance vendors -- companies that Ryan has specially sought out and approved. The idea is that the discounts offered can quickly offset the cost of membership.

Alliance members also receive an etched "timing" tag.

Hope that helps explain a few things.

Sounds good to me, even though I'm not really likely to use vendors, I still appreciate this place, especially when its on a roll.

InvisibleKid
08-09-2007, 10:28 AM
I dig the tag ideas by Shook. Something small and easy to mount on a sickle. Maybe something of thinner material that is stamped so it can bend to the diameter of a frame neck, etc...Ive got lunch money waiting to spend on one!!

Fredo
08-09-2007, 10:32 AM
Thx!

Also, i didn't put holes for rivets. The two places i would think to put it would be on my oil tank or on my neck. And I'm not sure how you could do rivets on either of those places.

You would use the same type of rivet that the DMV uses to blue tag bikes *at least here in Cali" The rivet has a twisted shank that forces it to SCREW it's self in when ya tap it in to a hole in the metal. The whole is smaller then the shank size but not by much.

KnuckleBuster
08-09-2007, 10:46 AM
I'm diggin' em. If you didn't want to rivet or screw (who doesn't want to screw?) you could always just use a heavy adhesive - curl it around your neck and glue it.

Deadbird
08-09-2007, 10:54 AM
Count me in! I like the Shook two tone version. Buildin' my Flyrite Loner now. I need that tag!

I'm proud to be a HAMB Alliance Member. It's cool and this should be just as cool. The vendor discounts rock, not to mention the content of the board! Fifty bucks well spent. It's the least I can do to help support this thing.

why not make a license topper? might be a little more tricky, but we have people here that cast, and pretty well might it add. you could hit up ChopperDave or Creepinogie. you could make a toppers that mount above or below the plates (for those of us with the tail light above the license) or even one that mounts on the SIDE of the plate....
the only thing, you, if you do this, should send them out UN-drilled, so we can make sure that it fits and such

Seems sheetmetal would be better vs cast, both for varied mounting, and for stamping rather than individually casting. I take it from the Jalopy link it will be usernames stamped rather than numbers.

Do it.

I'm a sucker for vintage tags like that. I don't care which design gets picked, but I'd like it nice and small so it doesn't take up too much room on a bike.

Biltwell already offers free shipping to JJ members, so I guess this would limit that free shipping to Alliance members only once it starts. Joining to me seems like a good idea even if there weren't any discounts. This place has value and we all use it for free so to give back a little wouldn't be asking much.

The JJ may suck at times with whining and useless banter and good posts here and there. It feel like the HAMB about 30K members ago.
I think alliance on the HAMB should = Jockey alliance, I wear my HAMB badge on my oil can of my bike. Nothing would justify spending 100.00 for 2 badges, I never even used any member discounts on the HAMB.(not much I buy at retail) I find my bike parts cheaper than any discounts can do.

I love the triangle design,
Just a thought,
Is this something that you would have to renew each year. Having the year stamped on may be cost prohibitive. The JJ would have to redesign each year and it could become a problem taking it on and off your bike if it is attached with adhesive. If you wanted to renew each year like a license having a spot for a sticker like your license plate does would be a good idea. Or having it read "Member Since" then the year stamped on.
I like the idea and can't wait to see it happen.

So who do we have as the vendors for the Jockey Journal? I already saw the ones for the H.A.M.B but do these apply to JJ2?

Great looking tags.

My Screen Printing business is in if it's wanted.

alliance membership helps keep shit going here, but also if you buy parts-- it'll generally pay for itself. im on the hamb alliance, and it's great all around.

by the way-- i like the triangular logo and would want it smaller than the hamb alliance tag.

good idea.

Yeah, small on a bike would keep it versatile for placement options, but I'd be in either way. There are some great guys, info and homegrown businesses on this board. If we can support them and the board itself, that'd be awesome.

The arrow shaped ones are the same just rotated ninety degrees. Was there a plan to offer it in the vertical position but with the lettering rotated? That might work too. Whatever is decided I just want to know when and where to send the cash. And by cash I mean PayPal.

If this goes through, I'm in regardless--hell even if there isn't a badge or anything, but am I in the minority in liking the others at least as much as the triangle? Those arrow shaped ones are awesome.

ryan, I like the idea sounds like it might be easier to use . I belong to both but spend most of my time on the jockey. Also like the badge I think it should be able to be fitted on the neck. I wuld dispaly it proudly thanks to all the help i,ve gotten on my build

I'll gladly chip in, not so much for the alliance' sake, but because I'm supporting a dude who is devoting his time to keep this place running in top notch form. Sure, there's a few new douchebags infiltrating the site, but otherwise quality. Up here, not too many folks know what the hell the JJ is, so for myself, 76tri and El Shawn to proudly display these badges in a city encrusted with billet barges would be an honour.

I agree with Shook and would like it to be more adaptable to a bike.
Here's what I was thinking would work in many applications or something similar to this...would work on a frame, a seat, helmet or even a timing cover...:D

dude, itslike this; pay the $50, get the badge, be part of something hella cool. it can lead to "vendors" giving alliance members "deals" and your helping out the admin. keep the JJ alive and kicking.

The benefits would need to be outlined with the "vendors" and what not with rules and regulations and as long as the Chewbacca seat is involved, I'd be in for it.

Late.

If and when this happens I suggest everyone join. I'm a HAMB alliance member, I paid $50 to join, I'm supporting the site and first time I ordered anything from an alliance vendor I saved over $50.
