I really enjoy the series.....good inspiration. I just wonder what would be created if the playing field was leveled a bit? I think everyone should be assigned the same bike to start with, and allowed a certain dollar amount (no freebies) to complete the task.

Here's my idea......Everyone gets a Honda Goldwing and one thousand bucks. (THAT would be a challenge)... I bet we would see some killer Hondas!!!!

It wouldn't have to be a honda....maybe a BMW???....or Harley Rapido???....Schwinn bicycle..(with supplied chain saw motor)???

Rick Fairless impressed me with his Triumph engine, but his paint killed me. I was sorta hoping to see Hank Young pull off a side valve or something weird. I have to agree, the Revtech/S&S engines are getting pretty old on that show.

One thousand dollars a honda dream and 12 cans of spray paint. With a time limit of 48 hrs. I agree I like the shows but you are right lets give them some real challenges.I too was also dissapointed with the Fairless bike.I kept thinking cool goin for somethin different and it was.The art work was killer just not layed out on a bike like that and the blue wheels did nothing for me with the orange/red paint. That my opion and doesnt really matter to anyone but me.

Hatch maybe we could buid a bike 2 or 3 of us build one and showin how its done on the cheap with the end result the same. Got room in your garage for a TV camera.LOL:)

I think you're on to something here Hatch.

The only problem would be, if they start building real bikes and not using a ton of pre-fab goodies the show would be three hours long and it would take months to film.
Then of course the yuppie veiwers wouldn't want to watch it anymore because there wouldn't be tons of bling which would lead to a complete downfall of the megalo chopper industry! Thus driving the whole biker, chopper, world back "underground".
And do you really think ebay would be able to handle the influx of choppers that go up for bid?

I think it'd be cool if both builders were given not identical bikes to start their builds with...but given a common objective to build towards at the start of the Challenge.

For example, tell each of the two builders to come up with "an old school, skinny-tired rigid" or a "vintage bobber" or "early cafe racer" or "contemporary chopper" or whatever. It'd be fun to see two different builders, with two different styles show off their interprtation of the assigned 'theme'....rather than having ONE guy build a sewer-tube fat tired steamroller chop and the other guy building an old flat tracker or something.

It'd just be more fun if they were building the same style of bike...

How about no new parts except for mechanical wear parts. They need to mix it up, get away from the v-twin stuff (nothing against Harley folks) a little.

having the standing heavily depend on how small a budget you used might make it cool to. hell i should come in somewhere right around 1500 with the yamaha and thats after paying 850 for a very nice 6k bike with lots of extras to sell off. had i started with a cheaper bike i probably could have done the same thing for around a grand or so. maybe we should have our own build off here.haha...ken....

The History Channel (!) does that with these two brothers who are mechanics and they have these two teams that each brother helps to work on identical projects. When they are done, they race them and the winning team gets the other's vehicle, what an awesome concept!

I think you've nailed it.

Every time I see an episode I look over at the wifey and say - "shit even I could build a nice bike if I had the budget and the parts that they have - it's easy to look good when someone else is taking care of the bill."

They should get what the average Joe gets...a rough bike, a pile of boxes filled with old parts and a budget of 50 bucks a week.....no time limit - I could give a shit how fast you work or what show you want to get it done by....

OCC's 1-hour commercial would fold without that drama...

(WARNING: this comment was not intended to start any thread extending comment about how intellectually draining the show is or how billet lame the OCC stuff is.)

Drawing from Junkyard Wars,I'd like to see them set up two
identically prepared shops,side by side.

Two teams start out with the same junk to pick through,
(with a few "key pieces" missing),a stack of raw materials,
a decent assortment of tools, and a fixed budget for catalog parts.
Limit how much can be Subbed Out,maybe just the seat,
Chrome,and powder coat.

Everything else has to be done in the shop by the team members.

Team Captains would be "name builders" from around the world,
and they can bring, let's say,3 assistants.Between the 4 of them,
they have to do it all.

Give them 28 days, and see what happens when parts don't magically appear.

That there would be an interesting show. I like biker build off for what it is. You get to see 2 builders build a bike in their element. Not that I like some of the hi-dollar results, but its still fun to watch.
