South Dakota has no helmet law. The Democrats like paying for your care when you're sucking through a tube.

I'll probably be made fun of in Texas, but I won't ride without a helmet.

hahaha, me too. I'll look pretty silly on the new bike in all my sport bike gear. :D If I was smart, I would at least paint the new bike red. ;)

Hey I don't blame you, even the ground hogs (armadillos) wear armor down there. :)

Don't worry man, most folks who've been on a bike for a while like the brain bucket. I know I do. I'm too pretty to rough my head up. ;)
I would never support any kind of helmet law but you'll always find me with one.

Anything to get those four wheeled, blue haired, cell phone talkin', make up puttin' on suckers to SEE you when you ride instead of running over you. That's why I like chrome. It's good and reflective.
I wish that one had to be either a trucker or biker to get a driver's license. I think the roads would be a much safer and easier place to ride.

We have a helmet law in Massa-two-shits but I don't think there is one in RI, NH or ME.
I gotta agree that anything that makes you more visible is good.
That's why I dig really REALLY ugly helmets.
Everyone seems to hate my helmet collection which is reason enough.

Thanks.
And as far as ugly helmets I dig those old 70's helmets with the big metal flake and all. Even though I wear a Davida classic, those others are just cool to look at.
No helmet law in Florida, well you gotta be over 21 and have medical insurance. I didn't wear a lid a couple of time when the law was first written into law by Governer Duh, but then I crapped my pants and wear one all the time, well most of the time.

I wonder if there's a difference for bikes that look like cop bikes.
I think they're ugly as, well, a cop bike. But I bet people "see" them a whole lot more often than any other kind of bike.

Anytime I see an FL or metric poser with a windshield and fog lights that is what I think of, cops. Around here, (still in Kennewick, WA) the cops ride FX's! You can see them real well because they wear bright yellow windbreakers over their leathers.

I love those ugly old metal flake helmets.
I've somehow managed to get a small little collection of cool ones over the years.
My pride and joy is a NOS Shoie (sp?) "Fancy Stripe"
Everyone seems to hate it....which is all the more reason.
Thanks.

Once you get to Texas, watch out. The only way to tell them from the guys who just went out and bought a p-bike is by the way they sit the saddle. Small rollers, short antenna, and usually black, white, or a combo on an FL don't make them very visible until it's too late. If I see a cat from a distance who's sitting up real straight, I watch my ass. Then it pisses me off it it's just some dude. LOL I'm a 'slumper' so I never scare anyone from a distance, just up close. :p

What are the cops and troopers like in TX by your experience?

For the most part, they are pretty business-like. You can tell that they are there to make money for the state, county, or city and that most of them dig their jobs.
The cool thing about HPD (at least in my inner city neighborhood) is that they have better things to do than hassle you for little shit like exhaust noise, dark window tint, etc.
Generally, in Texas, anything less than 8-10 mph over is not speeding unless you see more than one cop around and then they are wanting to make quota so watch it. It can still be a state where, if you and the cop aren't the same color, you will be getting a ticket but from what my black friends tell me, that seems to be letting up some.
The biggest problem to watch for is constables. They're not city, county, or state troopers. They work for the court precinct that they're in and they are usually bored from serving paper and are sticklers for every little thing. I think, from the look of them that they are entry level, 'just out of the academy' guys who didn't want to work at the jail. LOL ;)
Other than that, never speed in a school zone and your good to go. Although way the hell out in Borger they may ALL be so bored that they just camp on your doorstep. LOL :D
