i know Cole Foster has a method for shortening the forks on a bike that gives it his own unique look. well, how does he do it?? i was told he does it a little differently than most people would. is this true? hell i'm not sure how anyone would do it. someone wanna walk me through the process? thanks...

It really depends on the forks if you ask me and alot depends on what equipment you have at your use.Like on my triumph we turned of 2 inches on bottom and rethreaded, along with takin the same amount off the springs.

You could cut the top and cut the taper back in the tube if you have the right equipment.I think there is a post on the HAMB about his bike and how he did the forks.I do know he cut and shorten the lower legs some how so it would have enough travel and not bottom into the lower trees.

HD's can be lowered some by springs alone (ie white brothers) kit probl 2 inches and not lose much ride.
Dont know if this helps but I like to hear myself talk.LOL

they are Yamaha forks. i suppose if i took it apart and stared at it long enough i could figure out a way but i want to hear how it's been done before going at it blind. it'll likely be winter time before i mess with that though.

Cant you on Jap bike losen up the trees and slide the tubes thru top tree some to lower them?I am not up on the asin forks much but I thought I have heard that some fork tubes could be done that way for a couple inches of lowering.

You can drop them in the tree that way. There was an article in the April issue of the horse on shortening forks. The put a spacer in with the rebound spring and cut the compression spring.

i only work with old H-D's, which are easy to shorten. i cut the legs down, square the ends up on the lathe & run a tap in the end. works great and is easy to do.

I know how he does it... He unveiled me his trick a while ago. I owe him a pack of Marlboros now.

Better ask him by yourself... ;)
