It'll start ok cold (electric start, single fire ignition) roll throttle twice, enrichener on 2or3 revolutions and its going. When it comes up to temp and motor is stopped itll barely turn over and seems to push oil out push rod tube/tappet guide (rear exhaust) new batt which seems a little weak to start with.Super b carb running rich fouling in front cylinder cant seem to dial it in w/air fuel mix thinking maybe its a timing issue there, but not sure about the starting issues.Any suggestions? Thanks Shawn

I had the same issue with my 78. Turned out to be a cracked coil. As soon as it heated up it stoped coiling.

does it have solid or hydraulic lifters could need the valves adjusted on even a intake leak once it is warmed up good luck..

I will give it a try today.I believe there hydraulic lifters.Someone also said it could be my starter. The owner Prior to me removed the kicker.Have been toying w/idea of making it kick only any thoughts on that?

check your pushrod adjustment...
how soft is the top end? time for a rebuild. if it was the starter it would get red hot when trying to start it....does it disengage? run on?

Are you running points? Make sure your advance unit behind the points plate isn't sticking or frozen in the out position. Starting with full advance could make it start hard. Like the others said check your valve adjustment also. As far as kick only goes, go for it, them electric starters were marginal at best. I took all that stuff off my shovel and it's much nicer and even lighter! Keep it timed and tuned and it won't be a problem. Oh yeah make sure all your vent lines are clear.

make sure all connections to the battery are clean and tight,I have a 76 troublehead and just about everything vibrates loose after a while.I have to check all my connections often. the oil leak may be a bad cork seal at the lower pushrod tube when the oil thins out from the heat.I don't think thats related to your starting problem.

Sounds like you have multiple problems with different solutions. As for the starting problem it sounds like your timing is to far advanced. If not start checking starter and relay/solinoids. When it is hot can you kick start it ok?
