Alrighty, I'm goinna wear out this board with my ignorance. First question is how much side to side movement should I have with my connecting rods? I suspect I need a new crank pin. The rods have no play when pushed straight down, but a whole lot of side clearance...I doubt that's good.

Next question: Can this wheel accept a disc?

I'd like to change over to disc since I have no front brake and want to ride as much as possible and not die due to faulty brakes.

Thanks!!

I dont have my manuals handy but there is a small amount of side to side movement , Ibelieve in the Knife rod of the Knife and fork assembly. No up and down play is good
.As far as the rear wheel goes you could probably adapt something to it or pick up a wheel with a disk setup I belive there are kits to adapt a rotor
If that is a juice rear drum you may have to pull the residual pressure valve from the Master cylinder. Be careful about mixing brake fluids as DOT 3 and DoT 5 dont mix.

Dont skimp on anything especially if running no front brakes.I had a near death experience when I lost rear brakes with a suicide fron end.
Get a manual, and keep asking stupid questions
PS IMHO I would run front brakes:cool:

This is from a Clymers big twin manual:When rods are correctly assembledthe extreme upper end of the Male rod can have .025-.031 side shake.the female side shake is almost impercptable.

Thanks! I need to take another look and see where mine stands. Seemed like a lot, though.

Side to side is noticeable play,NO up-down play at all. and NO that rear wheel won't take a disc. Look for a later rear set-up.OK?!

Side to side, I get .012", up and down is perceptively zero. And I reckon I'll be looking for a rear wheel disc set-up since that's a mechanical drum of death. Thanks.
