i have a 1970 xlch that i picked up about 2 months ago. the mid controls are set up like a brit bike. (brake on left, shift on right). the question is: where can i find forward controls that have this f'd up setup??

Actually, it's the new sportsters that have the F'ed up set up. Yours is the way they are supposed to be.

since it is called a "sportster", it would imply a SPORTINESS to it...and the bikes back in the day that were used for any sort of racing had the shifter on the RIGHT side of the bike, so you didn't dig it into the ground during a left turn when downshifting.
yer bke does NOT have brit controls, it has sportster controls. deal with it..............or change it, which is my plan, but its not gonna be easy.

Mainly so you could shift while turning left and hotshoeing with your right foot. Back then, all the footshift bikes shifted that way except big twins which originally were made to handshift and it was easier to convert them to footshift on the wrong side.
