This is a tech from the HAMB on posting pictures. It really helped me and thought it might help some of you guys.

Let's just copy it over onto here (with a few minor revisions)....

Original HAMB post by Blacksix.

************************************************** *********

Ok....I've seen a lot of posts with folks asking how to post pics.

I know some people have felt a little embarrassed about it but it's no big deal.

I'll try and lay this out easy with some graphics and maybe this will walk you through the process the next time you want to post some pics up.

Let's get started.

I use www.imageshack.us for my picture hosting on forums. It's a free service that does not require registration and is almost completely "newbie" proof.

When you open Imageshack, you'll see a screen like the one below.

Select the BROWSE button.

http://img189.exs.cx/img189/5428/untitled11cy.gif

When you select the BROWSE button, you'll get a new window.

http://img157.exs.cx/img157/8519/untitled28nr.gif

This window should be pointed at the "My Pictures" folder on your computer. If your image is located somewhere else, use the icons on the left of the window or use the "Up" icon at the top to find the folder where your image is stored.

Once selected, your image should show up in the previously empty "file" window. Go to the bottom of the page and hit "Host It!"

Easy enough!

Ok...now to get that image to the JJ post

I want to post this image straight up, no thumbnail. JJ is a PHP based forum so it uses some simple code. We need to look for the tag that starts with and ends with . Anything in the middle of that tag is a URL or direct link to your image on Imageshacks servers.

LEFT CLICK in that block and you will highlight the whole row. Once it's highlighted, RIGHT CLICK and select COPY from the drop down menu.

http://img225.exs.cx/img225/8506/untitled71wf.gif

Now....go back to your "MESSAGE BOX" on the JJ forums. Dont use the "insert image" icon, just paste into the message.

In the box use your left mouse button and click once. You will see the flashing cursor. At this point RIGHT CLICK and select PASTE This will COPY-PASTE that code into the forum. You should see something like this:

http://img14.exs.cx/img14/9606/untitled83uj.gif

Be sure and hit ENTER between your words and your picture, and also between pictures.

When done....hit the Preview Post button. This should display your image inthe PREVIEW area above the MESSAGE BOX.

I hope this helps!

Thing is, most guys here seem to use Photobucket, and some who use Imageshack post huge pics that require scrolling the screen sideways.

Here are my tips for Photobucket

************************************************** ***********

Get a free pic account at http://www.photobucket.com , if you dont already. Then you can upload your pics into it.

Note in the "upload" area there's a blue link that say "more options" click and it pre-sets an image-sizer.

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e243/DragonworksCSA/Posting%202/PBhelp1.jpg

800 x 600' is best for full-size pics here.

http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e243/DragonworksCSA/Posting%202/PBhelp2.jpg

Then, "Save" and you are ready to post.

From your main album page, for the pic you want to post, you want to select the link "IMG Code"....click it, on mine it turns blue, then I right-click/"copy", and right-click/"paste" it, directly into your post message.

Dont use the little picture icons, just put it into the message so it looks like http: at the beginning & .jpg at the end (but with no spaces).

Be sure and hit "enter" between your text and the pic, and between pics. And use the "preview" button.

Good luck.

Any chance we could post this on the "Board" page??? I know new people never read sticky's but it sure would be more enjoyable looking at threads if they used photobucket and posted full screen pics. And no, I don't mean the one that you have to scroll sideways on. I know I am preaching to the choir but if there was even the slightest chance that some of them would use it, it would be worth it.

Thanks,
Scott

Like you say, the Stickies are basically invisible. And another on the board just displaces a build/tech thread there.

When folks ask or seem to be having problems, we refer/link them to this one anyway...

I was thinking if it was placed under the thread"Our pictures thread..." on the general discussion page that maybe people would find it easier because you know they never go to the questions/suggestions page. One of the highlights of this forumn is quality pictures.

Thanks,
Scott

There's an idea. I can copy it into that thread without moving it.

Here ya go step by step:

Right click on your image and save it to your desktop.

Open another window.

Go to www.tinypic.com (http://www.tinypic.com)

Click BROWSE

When the window pops up, find your image on your desktop and click it.

Click Open. That sends the IMG to Tinypic.

On Tinypic Click UPLOAD NOW

LEFT Click on the line with [IMG] in brackets to highlight it and then RIGHT CLICK on it.

Click COPY

Click the PIC icon here at JJ (little mountain scene)

Right click on that blank and click PASTE.

get a photo bucket (www.photobucket.com) add the pictures from your computer to the above photo bucket that you made. after the pics are on the said photo bucket, put your mouse over the picture (dont click) and a drop down will show up. there is an option that says IMG code: copy the code and paste it onto your thread.

Ive been having trouble with this lately also.
Thats the way I typically have done it with no problems, but now all it shows is the red X in the box.
I actually copy the URL address and paste it into the popup box that appears when I click the insert image icon. Am I doing something wrong or has a board formate changed?

Wow. After 4 years I think I've figured the posting picture thing out. Now, how do you make the pictures smaller? Matthewsuckerpunch, that's the easiest way of explaining how to do this that I've read. Thank you. BTW this is Dirty Jeff and myself in front of the timing tower at this years Bonneville Speed Week.

Couple of ways to make a pic. smaller. If you have already downloaded a pic in photobucket, hit the edit button for that pic, then resize. You can manually type in the size to you want the pic to be or chose from some preset sizes.
If you have not downloaded the pic yet, under the upload pictures and video bar is a button that says options. Click on that and you can select the pic size before you download it.

You need to paste the URL directly into your message. Try it once then Preview your post. you'll get it.
It"ll look stupid and chinese like but once you preview the pic should pop up.
No offense to any chinamen here....

OK, I can see from the 'properties' on your red X above, that you did not manage to copy the full link. A pic url will start w/http:// and end w/.jpg.

Here's what you copied - http://www.flickr.com/photos/elkcreek/4058564591/

I'm not that familiar with Flickr....if they dont provide you a link that ends in .jpg , just get their full-size version of your hosted pic, right-click on it and hit "properties" to get that url to copy.

Yep, just tried it....that's what happened, that link above that you copied into the post, was the Flickr pic-page url.

Right-click/copied propeties gives us - http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2546/4058564591_94b0e0bb05.jpg

I manually add IMG tags (or you could use that icon....seems faster to me to just type it) and get this -

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2546/4058564591_94b0e0bb05.jpg

That's a drag they dont offer you easy-to-post links....

----------------------------------------------------------------

All that "insert pic" icon does is add and to either end of a pic url but it has to be complete to show a pic.

That's how to copy/steal pix off the net, ebay etc, you can right-click/copy-paste the "propeties" url and then manually add the [IMG] tags.....that makes the pic show, and is the only difference in P'bucket's "Direct Link" and "IMG Code" links.
